Toning Shoes Are The Latest Craze In Exercise Shoes - But Do They Genuinely Work?

03Sep10

Toning shoes are the latest development in exercise footwear - and they are becoming very popular. Which is hardly surprising really – after all, who wouldn’t want to be able to tone their legs and trim their butt just by pulling on a different pair of shoes? There’s a wide choice of different brands available. Most of them operate on the principle of introducing a small amount of instability whilst walking in them.

It sounds like a crazy idea – but the theory is that the wearer’s muscles will naturally respond to the instability by trying to regain balance, and thereby doing doing work. The additional work carried out by the muscles in the lower body has the effect of trimming your butt and toning your legs more efficiently than normal walking. What you get in effect is a workout for your lower body, with no need to visit the gym and without any expensive gym membership fees.

MBT shoes – Masai Barefoot Technology – were the first to appear. Strictly speaking they weren’t originally classed as toning shoes. They were targeted at people who wanted to relieve lower back pain, reduce stress on joints and improve posture. They have a specially designed sole which produces a gentle rolling motion when your foot lands on the ground. This is intended to simulate the motion of walking barefoot on soft sand. The sole is pretty thick and quite chunky and not everyone will find it aesthetically pleasing. They certainly aren’t cheap - but if they helped to ease your back pain or toned up your lower body, you may well think that it was money well spent.

Skechers Shape Ups shoes also make use of a thick, curved sole – which makes use of a special kinetic foam insert – to reproduce the sensation of walking barefoot on soft sand. These are also pretty chunky in appearance, but they look much more like conventional fitness footwear than the MBT range.

Fit Flops sandals, clogs and shoes were originally developed in the UK and are now available worldwide. They look nothing like a standard exercise shoe but they deliver all of the benefits as other toning shoes – again by using a specially designed sole which is thicker than a conventional flip flop sole and which introduces a very slight instability whilst walking. They cost quite a bit less than the other shoes and – important for many – there’s a wide selection of different colors and styles to choose from. They originally started life as a range of sandals - but slippers, clogs and boots were added to the range based upon customer feedback.

Reebok recently launched its own range of toning shoes – Reebok Easy Tones. This is slightly different from the other toning shoes insofar as it uses air pods built into the sole of the shoe to create instability rather than a specially shaped sole.

All of the manufacturers previously mentioned have independent test results which back up their assertions that their shoes can give you a lower body workout just by walking around as normal. Neither is there any shortage of very positive customer testimonials. It goes without saying that there are sceptics as well.

It does seem like a dream come true – pull on a different pair of shoes in the morning and get a free lower body workout just by walking around. But is it maybe just too good to be true? Maybe it isn’t actually that important. Some of these shoes are about the same price as normal training shoes – some are actually a little bit cheaper. You could just wait until you need a new pair of shoes anyway and then try them. If the chief improvement derived from toning shoes is to encourage the wearer to walk further, then that’s a worthwhile benefit in itself.

Ethics And Fashion - A New World Partnership

02Sep10

Here’s the most important thing about myself and fashion : we don’t click. We do not get along well. You cannot put me and fashion in the same sentence.

I wasn’t one who’d buy fashion magazines and indulge into ooohing and aaahing over the newest releases or lines of established and would be designers. I would rather help myself with a John Grisham suspense thriller or a Jodi Picoult sob story than go gaga over featured accessories that all look the same to me. You’d never see me reaching out for glossy magazines to check what Angelina Jolie wore during the Academy Awards or what Nicole Kidman donned during the Oscars. Whether they were smokin’ or not doesn’t appeal to me. Who and what motion picture bagged the Bests awards and whose speech was the most inspiring are what I’m curious about.

But lately, it appears that we, that is, fashion and I, are slowly working things out. It started with 3 words, ethical is Fashionable. Yes, you read it right. Fashion’s new partner is indeed ethics. You don’t quite get it? Same here. I had a tough time understanding it too, the 1st time I saw it. How can fashion, a free spirit, ever hook up with a harsh and stifling character, ethics. An unlikely pair, isn’t it?

A particularly interesting one, too. The ‘ethical is fashionable’ scheme is slowly gaining momentum. Some view this as a methodology still to gain recognition among clothing corporations to launch themselves into the mainstream fashion scene. Think fair competition and trade. Others believe that this is really a drive towards a more reactive and responsible fashion industry, thinking less of what designers and outlets need to produce and more of what the purchasers like and demand which hopefully will translate to less surplus and less production waste.
Whichever stand you opt to defend isn’t important. The more vital thing to think about here is what is being done in the light of this campaign. The ethical is fashionable scheme is bringing products that used to be considered non marketable to full view. Take as an example crochets and knits and other hand-crafted goods which are clawing in millions of dollars.

What has happened to the claims these are unprofitable? The point is kind of easy and it has for a while been gazing at us : there is a steady shift occuring in the world of fashion. What used to be a restrictive and inclusive play ground for big corporations is becoming more accessible to smaller firms. Thanks to the more informed and more responsible patrons who have spotted that fashion is not just about having the latest and hottest item there is . Fashion is also about choice, intelligent ones. It includes : caring about starting business ventures, giving them an opportunity to break in the rather monopolized industry and supporting corporations who give back to their workers.

One of my favourite brands right now is Ginger and Smart Dress. A great example of an ethical brand.

Folks caring for people. Folk caring for the environment. And folk looking good. When did fashion become this exciting! Ethical is indeed fashionable.

So go have a look at Ginger and Smart Online and do your bit for ethical fashion.

Mary Frances Handbag Avoid Being Tricked

31Aug10

Once you have fallen in love with a Mary Frances handbag it is difficult to look at other designer handbags, however before you want to buy the bag you want to know if it is authentic because you know the replica industry is thriving. It would make sense for the replica manufacturers to replicate these handbags because they are well loved all over the world. Now the big question: How can you avoid being conned by someone who wants to sell you a fake Mary Frances designer bag?

It is quite amazing that people can make money off other companies designs and simply get away with it. Because these people know that Mary Frances Handbags are very popular they could also try and tap into this market. What most fashionistas who buy these fake bags don’t realize is, it’s totally illegal. I mean this artist has a special talent and the artisans who make these handbags work very hard. No matter what it’s just wrong.

This illegal trade has been around for quite some time, but they do so well because women support them. What really chaps my hide is if someone gets ripped off, thinking they have the real product but someone knowingly sold they something fake.

Look at these 7 tips and they will have a hard time scamming you.

1. A Mary Frances bag will cost anything between $100 to $300 dollars. So if someone wants to sell it for $25 you know it’s a fake.
2. I mean these handbags don’t get sold at flea markets or on street corners. Also reputable places know they cannot damage their business by selling fake goods.
3. A brand new handbag will be in a black dust cover bag.
4. Her designs have a hang tag attached to the handbag. Look out for a metallic logo medallion. The latest handbags since the year 2004 have an oval pendant with a metal chain.
5. Check if the material it is made of is real, for example smell the leather to see if it is real.
6. Some people choose to buy from e-bay. Make sure that the seller states that the handbag is authentic.
7. Every bag comes with an authenticity card which has a number on it.

A great advantage to the Mary Frances designs is that they contain a lot of fine detail and are crafted with precision. The replica manufacturers will have great difficulty replicating these designs.

If you keep all of these pointers in mind then there should be no problem in finding a beautiful and elegant mary frances handbag to accessories your wardrobe.

Ladies Designer Clothes And The Never-Ending Sizing Battle

30Aug10

If you’re someone that isn’t stick thin and yet still likes to look good, it can be hard finding ladies designer clothes that fit you perfectly. Curvy ladies can sometimes turn their backs on designer clothes because they know there won’t be anything available in their size. Years of designer fashion creations have never really varied from the idea that they are designed for slim women, but with size 0 models promoting designer clothes these days, have things just gone a bit too far?

We all want to look and feel good and ladies designer clothes are often the best way for women to do this. The problem starts when curvy ladies find they can’t buy top designer clothes because they simply can’t get into them! To start with, you have to be able to find a designer brand that caters for your size and this can be a lengthy process for some. It is interesting to note how designer clothes are always on the small side, so whereas you might be a size UK 8 in normal clothes, you would probably have to buy a size 10 to be able to fit into it. Many slim women will agree that designer clothes aren’t over-generous with their sizing, and this often prompts many women to try and lose weight so they can fit into their favourite ladies designer clothes.

Fashion designers have created this idealistic view of how their clothes are supposed to look and that’s why their small sized ladies designer clothes are always worn on the catwalk by very thin ladies. However, the reality is that there are many women of different shapes and sizes that still want to be able to wear the latest ladies designer clothes. Designers often only concentrate on how the garment looks down the catwalk, not realising that real women wear the pieces too.

But let’s not get too down about this, as there is a glimmer of hope out there with some fashion designers now catering for women who are slightly larger. One brand, Juicy Couture, used to be well known for making small clothes, but their sizing is much more ‘true to size’ these days, which bodes well for other brands potentially doing the same.

Spartan Warrior Wardrobes

29Aug10

If you’ve been thinking of dressing up like a Spartan warrior, this is the article you have been looking for. The Spartan soldier was one of the best known soldiers of his generation. Each warrior could easily fight as a single unit or as part of a larger army. Many people have already dressed up as Spartans and many others are still trying to figure out how. I wrote this article to teach people how they can dress up like traditional Spartan warriors.

The first thing you must do is get in great shape. Physical fitness was demanded of all ancient Spartan warriors. Also their fighting gear did not consist of much and can be quite revealing. You’ll want to make sure you have your beach body ready before fully dressing like a Spartan. Although the Spartan helmets will completely cover your head, you can be sure the rest of you will not be covered.

Always remember that although you need to get in shape before dressing up like a Spartan, you do not want to kill yourself getting there. Talk with your trainer and physician before you begin your new workout plan. After you have your new body ready, start building your Spartan outfit.

Simplicity best describes the Spartan outfit. It consists of a pair of leather sandals, a Spartan helmet, a short spear, a short sword, and a large round shield. Armor was not worn in the 300 movie so you can get away with not wearing any as long as you aren’t worried about looking authentic. Traditional Hoplite armor will be needed for a more authentic look. Hoplite armor covers the torso and shoulders and goes perfectly with the Spartan tunic.

Most of these items can be found at Armor Venue . Fabulous looking Spartan replica armors can be found at this site. Armors and helmets can easily be found at the website. You can also check local costume shops for these items as well. Some people even go so far as to create these items themselves. Youtube videos can be a great source of tutorials for creating costumes at home. Determine what kind of costume you want to wear in advance so you will know how much time and money will need to be put into your wardrobe.

Medieval Dress Purchasing

28Aug10

Medieval dresses are purchased for a wide array of reasons. One might be having a Renaissance fair, a costume party, a play, or even a movie. Sadly, these items may be difficult to obtain. Halloween is really the only time of year that many stores have items such as this. Local clothing stores will most likely lack the medieval dresses you are looking for. Fortunately for you, I have found several places where you can go to buy this type of dress. In the following paragraphs I’ll tell you a few of my favorite places to find medieval clothing and explain to you what I like about each place.

Medieval clothing, like standard everyday clothing, can be purchase in both new and preowned versions. You can buy a medieval gowns at a standard costume store or a used clothing store. This includes stores that are found locally and online.

Buying a used medieval dress is great because you’ll save dramatically on price. Ebay and other online auction sites have a wide array of discount preowned costumes. Unfortunately you won’t be able to get a good look at the item or try it on before you buy it. Preowned items need to be inspected to ensure that they are not stained, ripped, or discolored in any way.

If your looking to avoid the aforementioned problem, you might want to look into visiting a second hand store or consignment shop. Many times these shops will have preowned outfits you can try on and look over. The only draw back to this method is that it can be very time consuming tracking down this type of item in your size and in good condition.

Another method is to go to a new costume store or online costume shop. You can find many great sites online without much effort. For instance historicalclothingrealm.com is a great site where you can buy many different historical costumes. Internet stores such as this one can offer you a large variety and a great price.

Otherwise you can go to a local costume shop and try on some nice costumes at a higher price. You’ll find this technique useful when you need the costume on the day you are shopping for it and can’t wait for overnight delivery.

Thanks so much for reading this page on buying medieval clothing. Please add this page to your social book marks and link to it wherever possible.
