Outrageous designs and provocative shows are trademarks of Alexander McQueen. The designer behind the brand, Alexander McQueen, is the son of a taxi driver and was born in the East End of London. His love for designing began at a young age and he often made dresses for his three sisters.
The man became one of the youngest designers to receive the honour of the title “British Designer of the Year.” He won this title four times between 1996 and 2003. Alexander McQueen has been awarded the CBE and was named International Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards.
The designer also became the first to participate in MAC’s newest promotion: cosmetic releases created by fashion designers. In 2000 Gucci bought 51% of the company Alexander McQueen. When this partnership occurred the designer McQueen served as the company’s creative director. Expansion occurred quickly and the company soon opened stores in New York, London and Milan. Alexander McQueen launched perfumes. In 2005 the Alexander McQueen brand created a special line of sneakers for the company after collaborating with Puma.
Alexander McQueen continues to be seen as the bad boy of fashion. On October 11, 2007 he released a Fall/Winter collection that was inspired by the Elizabeth Taylor movie Cleopatra. The models wore Egyptian-style black eyeliner, and blue, green and teal eyes. The designer handpicked the cream shadows, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lip glosses, as well as the mineralised skin finish powder.
