Burberry Prorsum started out as a brand that outfitted WWI soldiers and the company is credited with inventing the water resistant material, gabardine. The company began in 1856 under the watchful eye of its creator, Thomas Burberry.
After outfitting WWI soldiers, Burberry Prorsum went on to creating signature trench coat and plaid/check patterned garments and accessories and became a very popular brand of clothing for fashionable men and women to wear. Since 1997 the company has gone through a succession of new managers and designers that have revitalized the company. These managers and designers include Rober Menichetti and Christopher Bailey.
Burberry Prorsum clothing is simply and beautiful using clean lines, classic styling and traditional colours to create striking clothing. You’ll see a lot of offshoots of red, black and beige in Burberry Prorsum clothing. Clothing by this brand is designed to be wearable. Christopher Bailey is credited with creating a fabulous selection of easy to wear garments that combine grunge and heritage. This unique look was accessorised with luxe accessories to prevent it from looking too drab and to keep the look polished and clean.
Christopher Bailey spent a year a Donna Karan’s studio in new York after studying at the Royal College of Art. He also worked six years designing women’s clothing under Tom Ford at Gucci. When he came to Burberry, he was able to revitalise the label and the company earned a record $167 million in profits.
