Lanvin designer fashion

The Lanvin lable began as a couture and ready-to-wear line of clothing in the late 19th century. The founder of the company, Jeanne Lanvin, was born in France in 1867 and moved to Paris in 1889 to set up shop as a milliner. Her clothing became popular and over the next two decades she dressed all of Paris’ elite, men, women and children. In 1909 Jeanne Lanvin was inducted into the esteemed Chambre Syndicale de la Couture.
Besides her collections of fabulous and quality clothing, Jeanne Lanvin also created one iconic perfume after another. One of the better known brands of her perfume was Arpege, which had an early fan in Josephine Baker. Over the years the Lanvin brand has managed to hang on to the innate sense of elegance and refinement that made the company such a success when Jeanne Lanvin first started it. The look of featherweight sophistication for the modern bourgeoisie is carried on by the current designer of Lanvin, Alber Elbaz.
Alber Elbaz is Moroccan born and worked at Guy Laroche and Geoffrey Beene. In the late 1990s he took over the reins at Yves Saint Laurent and remained there until he was unceremoniously dumped. He came to Lanvin in the fall of 2001.
