Trovata designer fashion
The label Trovata is known for its slightly tweaked preppy look. It was launched in 2002 by California friends John Whitledge, Sam Shipley, Josia Lamberto-Egan and Jeff Halmos. They launched this men’s collection during their senior year of college and made their New York runway debut in the fall of 2005. At this time they introduced women’s clothing as well.
People loved the Trovata almost instantly and the company has received numerous awards for its clothing. Awards include the $200,000 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, the $25,000 Ecco Domani and the CFDA’s Swarovski Perry Ellis for menswear.
Clothes target the WASP demographic. Trovata collections include striped ties, toggle sweaters, well-worn blazers, chinos, mismatched buttons and corduroy. To keep things interesting and entertaining, the designers behind Trovata create satirical tales every season when they release a new collection. The satirical tales are usually about rich people who have gone bad. One example of such a story was the fall 2006 one about a murder in a fancy ski lodge where the weapon was a fondue fork.
The team of young designer of Trovata all have non-fashion backgrounds. They ended up working together through a maze of interesting connections. Whitledge and Halmos grew up together. Halmos and Shipley were roommates at the University of Colorado. Whitledge and Lamberto-Egan met through their girlfriends.
