Most people recognize the name Yves Saint Laurent. The brand was established in 1961 and has grown to be one of the biggest fashion names of this century. It has become such a popular brand because of its groundbreaking designs and innovative clothing pieces. The company is responsible for making luxury labels accessible to more people.
This brand is responsible for launching the first Couture house. In 1966 Yves Saint Laurent introduced the concept of luxury women’s prêt-à-porter with the Rive Gauche Collection. The designer followed this up in 1969 by a Rive Gauche ready-to-wear line for men. It wasn’t long before boutiques were opening up all over the world and fashion forward thinking consumers were buying Yves Saint Laurent designs all over the place.
Yves Saint Laurent became a part of Gucci group in 1999. Since the brand was acquired by this luxury division of the PPR Group, it has repositioned its product at the top end of the luxury goods market. Collections from this brand include small leather goods, jewellery, ties, eyewear, scarves, shoes and handbags for men and women. The company currently has 63 directly operated stores. Flagship stores are located in Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, London, New York and Milan.
